The Career Center will be judging students who they believe have what it takes to dominate an interview to win cash prizes in the end. The deadline to be part of the competition is June 27, so get your resume in soon.
The competition, which will be held between Aug. 22 and Aug. 26, is designed to give students a first-hand look at an actual interview process to hopefully prepare them for different situations down the road.
An incentive, other than experience, is a $500 Dillard's wardrobe given to the top male and top female of the competition. The deadline to sign up for the interview competition is July 27 on the Career Center website with resumes due by July 29.
"The whole idea was to recognize a Top Young Professionals Event," said Melvin Smith, specials events coordinator for career services. "This was a good way to connect with Dillard's and get students interested and involved."
The event will consist of two parts; a competition for the contestants and a fashion show co-sponsored by Dillard's.
"It's set up as if you really were going to get a job," said Matt Anspach, career services.
The judges will be local business professionals who will base their decisions off four separate categories: appearance, resume quality, skills throughout the interview and how well participants close their interview.
"If somebody wants to do this just as practice that is the least they will get out of it," Anspach said. "It will probably get you ahead of the game later on."
The second part of the event is the Dress for Success Fashion Show, which will feature professional attire modeled by the Auburn University Modeling Board.
"We want to give students really good information on what to wear to career fairs or interviews in general," Anspach said. "We will have what is appropriate attire and what is inappropriate attire, just to clarify."
The people who attend the fashion show will also be able to compete for prizes including a makeover at a local spa.
The fashion show is open to the public and will take place Aug. 29 at the AU Hotel and Dixon Conference Center.
The event is also a good opportunity to highlight a few of the services the Career Center has to offer.
"This is a two fold, we get to promote our office and the services we provide to students, and it's about career awareness," Smith said. "Many students don't know what we have available."
The participants of the competition are required to go to the Career Center's website and establish an account on the tiger recruiting link, a service provided for any student wishing to set up an interview time with job recruiters.
