Auburn basketball coach Tony Barbee signed his contract after acting under a "letter of agreement" since coming to Auburn in 2010. The contract will pay Barbee $1.5 million a year until 2017.
Barbee said the lack of a formal contract never fazed him.
"Auburn had committed to me; I had committed to them," Barbee said. "Whether I had a signed contract or not, it was not a big deal. Everybody else was making a big deal out of it, I don't know. I'm focused on coaching this team and running this program."
Barbee can also receive up to $600,000 in end of the year bonuses depending on his success during the season. The contract includes a buyout clause that states Auburn would owe Barbee $750,000 if they fired him before his contract expired. If Barbee were to leave before 2017, he would owe Auburn $1 million overall. That total will decrease by $250,000 each year.
Barbee is 10-5 this season and 0-1 in SEC play.
