May European metropolitan tour available to juniors, seniors and recent alumni

If you are an upcoming or recent graduate of Auburn University and want to experience a European summer, the Auburn Alumni Association would like to invite you to join their fourth annual Graduation Trip.

This summer, a group of "young alumni" will embark on a journey through several of Europe's most popular cities.

"College juniors through recent graduates are who we consider young alumni," said Pam White from the Auburn Alumni Center.

The graduation tour is organized through AESU, a travel agency focusing on group tours. "We work with 30-35 universities to put together travel packages," said Maggie Stephens, an AESU associate. "We put together two itineraries that the universities can choose from. Auburn offers the Classic European tour," Stephens said.

This summer's tour costs $1,998 plus airfare and offers a basic 10-day excursion that includes visits to London, Paris and Rome. A seven-day extension that comprises trips to the Sorrento Peninsula, Pompeii and Athens can be added for an additional $985. The group will depart May 15, and will return May 24 and May 31.

The graduation tour began three years ago with a group of 25. White said she believes this summer will be similar in size to the pioneer crew.

Lucy Mosley, senior in education, will accompany the young alumni as a Student Travel Ambassador. As the STA, Mosley will serve one year as a liaison between the travelers and the Alumni Association.

"I make posters and blog and tweet to grab students' attention," Mosley said.

According to Mosley, being an STA has given her great life experience.

"I learned a lot of business skills and I learned how to coordinate and market for the trip," she said.

A summer full of fun and memories is inevitable, but according to White, this trip will also serve in job preparation.

"When you can say, 'I've been out of Alabama, I've seen the difference between cultures, languages and language barriers,' you have a diversified view on people," White said. "When it comes to (job) interviews, that will make you stand out."

If you would like to learn more about the tour, an information meeting is being held Thursday, January 19, at 5:30 p.m. at the Auburn Alumni Center, located on South College Street. The meeting will feature a video of the past trips and parents are invited to attend.

If you are interested in becoming an STA, which can serve as an internship for some majors, contact the Auburn Alumni Association or email Mosley at llm0006@auburn.edu.
