Men's tennis defeats Troy

The Auburn Tiger Men's Tennis team triumphed over the Troy Trojans 7-0 at the Yarbrough Tennis Center Saturday, Jan. 21. The Tigers are ranked No. 21 in the country and coach Eric Shore was pleased on how the team kicked off its season.

"I thought we played really solid in singles," Shore said. "In doubles I thought we were a little bit inconsistent. We weren't sharp, but for the first match, you have to take the good with the bad. I thought we did a good job of coming out in singles and playing focused. Troy is a good team. They are well coached. I can't be disappointed, but we all know we have to get better."

During the doubles matches senior Alex Stamchev and junior Andreas Mies won 8-1.

Along with his doubles victory, Samchev defeated Sami Ghorbel in a singles match 6-3, 6-2.

Saturday also brought good individual news to two Auburn players. Sophomore Dennis Lengsfield won his first career singles match 6-0, 6-1 while freshman Lukas Ollert earned his first singles victory with a win over Patrick Eichler 6-1, 6-1.

Auburn will play Middle Tennessee State Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. Admission will be free to all in attendance.
