Women's basketball loses to Mississippi State

The Auburn Tiger women's basketball team fell to the Mississippi State Bulldogs 62-57 Sunday afternoon. The loss caused the Tiger's to fall to 10-10 overall and 2-5 in the SEC while the Bulldogs improved to 13-6 overall and 3-3 in the SEC.

Junior forward Blanche Alverson bolstered the Tiger's to take an early lead. Alverson finished with 16 points,4 rebounds and 1 block. Auburn's largest lead was 15 points in the second half, but the Bulldogs trimmed it back to 28-20.

The Bulldogs dominated the second half with senior guard Diamber Johnson earning 27 points, 2 rebounds and 3 steals. A crucial Auburn turnover with 2:08 remaining forced Auburn to foul and put the Bulldogs on the free throw line.

Down five points with 26 seconds left,sophomore guard Camille Glymph launched a desperation three-point shot. The shot was of the mark and the Bulldogs ran the clock from there.

Auburn's next contest will be against the Kentucky Wildcats at home on Jan. 26., at 6 p.m. This contest will be a green game to benefit the National Collation Against Domestic Violence. Boxes will be set up for used cell phone donations to benefit the Collation.

"The Auburn Family includes some of the best fans in the world and we have a great group of them that come to our games," said coach Nell Fortner."We thought this was an excellent way for us to use the exposure we get at our games to assist some great causes in our community. We have two programs here that use recycling to help groups of people that are in need and I think that is a win-win for everyone."
