The Auburn women's basketball team fell to the Vanderbilt Commodores 66-58 Thursday night. With the loss, the Tigers slipped to 9-8 overall and 1-3 in the conference while Vanderbilt improved to 14-2 and 2-2 in the SEC.
Sophomore guard Tyrese Tanner led the Tigers with 14 points, but sloppy play plagued both teams as they combined for 38 total turnovers. Auburn was held scoreless for eight minutes in the first half, the Commodores jumping out to a 29-13 lead at halftime.
Vanderbilt led the rest of the game, but Auburn was able to cut the lead to five in the final minute with a 13-1 run. However, the Commodores would make three of their next four free throws to seal the win.
Vanderbilt sophomore Christina Foggie led the Commodores with 27 total points, 18 of which came from beyond the arc.
"We fought really hard and I was proud of that," said Auburn coach Nell Fortner. "We have made a habit of getting behind early and coming back, and we did that again tonight."
Auburn's next contest will be on the road against the Arkansas Razorbacks at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The Razorbacks are 11-5 overall and last in the SEC with a 0-4 conference record.
