Women's gymnastics tumble to Georgia

The Auburn gymnastics team lost its season home opener Friday against Georgia. The Tigers couldn't overcome the No. 6 Bulldogs, losing 195.975-195.600.

Auburn has defeated Georgia once before in a close 2010 match at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum finishing with anoverall score of 195.225-194.900.

After the first event, Georgia led by .050. Brianna Guy, freshman in pre-exercise science, led the way for the Tigers for vault with Shayla Worley as the top scorer for Georgia on bars.

At bars for Auburn, Allyson Sandusky, senior in hotel and restaurant management, scored a team high of 9.875 while Georgia's Kat Ding scored a near-perfect 9.90.

In vault and bars, no Auburn athlete scored below a 9.70, but after three of the four events Georgia continued to lead 147-146.725.

The floor was Auburn's final event, with a total score of 48.850. Georgia's last event was the beam. With even performances by both teams the judge's decisions were close.

The Tigers lost by .375 making them 0-2 in the SEC.

Auburn's 2012 schedule was ranked as the seventh-most difficult in the NCAA Division 1 programs. The Tigers take on Alabama Jan. 27 at home.
