Auburn clinches win against Hornets

The Auburn Tigers improved their record to 5-4 after a 7-1 victory against the Alabama State Hornets.

Jon Luke Jacobs pitched seven innings and gave up three hits and two walks while striking out 13 batters.

"He was in command all night," said coach John Pawlowski, "whether he was pitching in the zone or outside of the zone."

Sophomore outfielder Jay Gonzalez continues to be dangerous at the plate earning three hits in four at-bats with two RBIs and three stolen bases. Gonzalez became the first Auburn player to hit two triples in a game since the 2000 season. Also contributing in the RBI column was senior Creede Simpson with one RBI, sophomore Dan Glevenyak with two RBIs and junior Cullen Wacker with two RBIs. The Tigers totaled nine hits with seven stolen bases and six walks. Six Auburn batters struck out.

Sophomore Reliever Will Kendall came on in relief to close the game, pitching the final two innings and not allowing any Hornet batters to get on base. The loss was the Hornets eighth, putting them at 1-8 in the year.
