Mizzou holds off Auburn surge to win first game of double header

In the first of two back-to-back games today, the Missouri Tigers beat Auburn 6-4.

Missouri left fielder Dane Opel led his team with three hits in four at bats, including two home runs and four RBIs.

Auburn junior Slade Smith had a rough start on the mound. In four innings pitching he gave up nine hits while striking out three and walking two.

Offensively, Auburn totaled 13 hits with five players getting on base twice. Junior Garrett Cooper and sophomore Blake Austin each had two hits and an RBI in the loss. Auburn had a late surge in the ninth inning when junior pinch-hitter Cullen Wacker batted in two runners to bring the Tigers to within two. It wasn't enough, however, as Missouri closer Jake Walsh struck out sophomore Jay Gonzalez to end the game.

Missouri pitcher Jeff Emens got the win today, pitching just over three innings with two strikeouts while giving up seven hits.
