Women's basketball falls to Tennessee

The No. 8 ranked Tennessee Volunteers defeated the Auburn Tigers women's basketball team 81-62 Sunday afternoon. The Volunteers improve to 17-6 overall and 6-2 in SEC play while Auburn drops to 11-13 overall and 3-8 in SEC play.

The Volunteers have a 14-game home winning streak against Auburn. This record goes back to the 1989 season.

"It is a tough environment, they have great crowd support," said Auburn coach Nell Fortner. "Tennessee will have 14,000 or 15,000 at that game. It gets loud in there. The history and respect you have for that program, not just as a coaching staff, but your kids do too. Your players have probably grown up going to their camp or have been there at one point. It is an interesting place to play, a tough place to play."

Volunteer forward Glory Johnson finished with a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Auburn's leading scorer was sophomore guard Camille Glymph who finished with 13 points and three rebounds.

Turnovers were a problem for the Tigers. Auburn committed 21 turnovers on the day compared to the Volunteers' 11. Auburn was also was outscored in the paint 52-28 by the Volunteers.

Auburn will travel to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators Feb. 9. Tipoff will be at 6 p.m.
