Auburn falls to the Crimson Tide

In front of a sell-out crowd at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, the Tigers fell to the Crimson Tide for the second time of the season 55-49.

The Tigers entered the tonights matchup 14-14 on the season, while Alabama was 19-9.

Junior center Rob Chubb got the Tigers rolling with a short jumper in the opening seconds.

Alabama guard Rodney Cooper hit a three with three minutes remaining in the first half to put Alabama up 22-14.

The Tigers went on a 7-0 run to close the first half and finished the first 15 minutes down 21-23. Auburn's top scorer, junior guard Noel Johnson, had just six points in the first half, while senior forward Kenny Gabriel shot only 10 percent.

Freshman center Willy Kouassi saw more playing time than usual, giving Chubb a rest and giving Auburn a fresh pair of legs.

Johnson hit a three with 14:45 remaining to put the Tigers up 32-31, while sophomore guard Chris Denson added a layup on the following possession.

Junior guard Frankie Sullivan hit another three with nine minutes left, but after two free throws and a three pointer from Alabama guard Trevor Lacey, the Crimson tide went up 42-39 with less than nine minutes remaining.

Guard Andrew Steele scored with 4:31 remaining to put Alabama up 47-43. Chub was fouled with 1:11 remaining and brought the difference to two points, but forward JaMychal Green scored a quick two to put the Crimson Tide up four.

Sullivan's three point attempt with 12 seconds remaining was no good, and Alabama held on to win by six.
