Keep track of your books as semester comes to a close

School is almost over for the semester, and you all know what that means: time to sell back your books! While some buyback prices are less than fair, take extra caution so that you have a book to sell back, not to mention one to study for your final with!

I work at a bookstore in town and hear many stories about people having their books stolen from the library, classrooms, the Student Center, and even by roommates. Don't fall into that category.

Keep your books with you all the time. Say you're in the library and need to run to the bathroom. As annoying as it is, take your stuff with you unless you have a trusted friend watching it. Would you rather have to pack up and then unpack five minutes later, or go fill out a police report and beg to borrow a book?

Trust me. Pack the stuff up.

Textbook crimes are easier and more common during finals time. It becomes really easy for someone to steal your book and sell it back. Think about it: bookstores don't know the book is stolen until they know what to look for. I have this to offer in keeping your books safe.

First, as I said, keep your books with you. Second, make a mark on a specific page in every book. Make it a mark that only you will know--don't tell anyone what it is (unless your book is actually stolen, then tell the bookstores). Make the mark on the same page in every book, that way you'll know where to look every time. Finally, if your book is stolen, inform the bookstores at once with the title and author (or class--they usually know which book you'll be talking about).

Hopefully it won't get to the point where your book is stolen, but just remember to take extra precautions during these last couple of weeks and you won't be even more stressed during finals.
