In a pivotal game one of the final SEC series of the year the Tigers fell to the Gators 6-0.
With the loss, the Tigers fell to 12-16 in the SEC as the Gators improve to 17-11 with only two games left before the SEC tournament.
The Gators started the game off with five runs on five hits in 1.1 innings off of senior righty John Luke Jacobs (5-3). Jacobs took the loss on the day.
Sophomore right-hander Jay Wade came in relief for Jacobs allowing only one run on one hit. Wade went a career long 6.1 innings on 87 pitches. Despite Wade's effort, the Tigers provided no run support at the plate.
"I am thankful for Jay Wade and the job he did to save our bullpen tonight," said Auburn coach John Pawlowski.
Freshman reliever Chase Williamson made his fourth appearance of the year coming in for Wade to close out the game. Williamson allowed only one hit in 1.1 innings.
Gators pitcher Hudson Randall (7-1) went the distance allowing no runs on three hits in a nine inning shut-out that lasted less than two and a half hours.
"You have got to give credit where credit is due, I thought he was outstanding," Pawlowski said. "We didn't strike out a lot. We just didn't square up a lot of balls. I thought it was one of the better pitched games we have had against us all year."
Senior second baseman Creede Simpson said Randall's performance was a lesson learned for the Tigers.
"If you keep the ball down in the zone and hit your spots you can do damage to the other team," Simpson said. "We got to win, we got to try and find a way to get two W's. It's a big part of our year right now and it would be huge if we could get two wins and hopefully make a regional and take it into Hoover with some momentum."
The Tigers will look to bounce back tomorrow with Daniel Koger (3-4) facing off against Brian Johnson (5-4) in game two of the series at 6 p.m. at Plainsman Park.
