Auburn's football team had one practice earlier Wednesday morning and a scrimmage practice later that evening.

After, Gene Chizik said the team got a lot accomplished and cut down on some errors.

"We still had too many tonight, but it was a valuable scrimmage, a lot of young guys played," Chizik said.

The football team is getting very physical at practice with the season opener against Clemson in Atlanta being two weeks from Saturday.

Chizik has yet to decide on who the starting quarterback will be.

According to Chizik, the plays he has seen are "too sporadic."

"Some cases they are really on target and managing the offense and other times not as sharp," said Chizik.

This plays back to the inconsistency of the team that he has been witnessing throughout several practices now.

When asked about some of the younger guys on the team Chizik mentioned freshman quarterback Jonathan Wallace.

"He can do some other things, some athletic things as quarterback, but all the quarterbacks bring something different to the table," he said.

They have a lot more evaluating to do on all the players and plan to watch tapes from the practices and scrimmages to help with their decision-making for the starting lineup. The players are fighting for positions and the coaches are getting a better idea and zeroing in on the ones that will best fit the schemes.

Sophomore quarterback Kiehl Frazier is expected by many to be starting in the season opener, but the issue still has not been settled.

When he was asked what his own opinion was of his game he said he was "comfortable as can be with the position" with it being his first year in the hunt for the starting job.

Frazier hopes to bring a lot more passing to the game rather than just running the ball like he was seen last year in wildcat formations. He sees the team progressing a lot and complimented the offense's performance in practice.

I got the chance to talk to senior defensive back T'Sharvan Bell about the defensive line. "We have taken a lot of strides since we stepped out there on the first. I think we still have a ways to go, but I definitely think we have time to get there," Bell said.

He believes that staying mentally tough is a key factor to keeping a good game going and also to not let the penalties get to you.

All together it seems like the coaches and the players all agree that there is still a lot of work to be done if we want to have a winning season.

According to Chizik, the team mainly needs to work on keeping consistent and staying strong.

When asked if any more scrimmages will be held, Chizik said the team would first evaluate the overall health of the players.

"We are getting close to where we imagined we would be," Chizik said. "We still have some evaluations to do. Again we may end up doing more scrimmaging because of young guys we need to evaluate."
