Carver High School of Montgomery quarterback Jeremy Johnson received the Alabama Sports Writers Association's Mr. Football Award Wednesday at the annual Player of the Year Awards.
Johnson became the award's 31st recipient, given to the state's best football player. It was also the closest vote in the award's history with Johnson winning by two overall votes. Johnson received 170 overall votes, beating Fultondale senior quarterback ArDarius Stewart's 168.
A four-star Auburn verbal recruit, Johnson passed for 3,193 yards and 31 touchdowns in his senior season. The 6-foot-6, 219-pound quarterback also rushed for 705 yards and seven scores. Last year he was also an ASWA first-team all-state basketball selection.
