Auburn softball battles for better record

The softball team overcomes deficits in two games to sweep Mississippi State in a double header on the road, Friday March 29, extending its record to a 23-13 overall record and a 4-7 in the SEC.

"I can't say enough about the fight in this team," Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. "We kept fighting back and fighting back. Our pitchers gave up some runs early in both games, but they settled down and kept us in the game. These were total team efforts. Tomorrow is a big game. We need to eliminate the mistakes we made today and take advantage of every opportunity we get."

In game one, Auburn erased a two-run deficit with a five-run fifth inning to cruise past the Bulldogs 8-3.

Marcy Harper earned the complete game effort with five runs allowed on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

In game two the Tigers would again find themselves trailing late in the game and needed a seventh inning rally to claim the 7-5 victory to complete the sweep against the Bulldogs.

Lexi Davis earned the win in game two after four strikeouts in six innings. Marcy Harper earned her first save in relief of Davis.

Auburn will conclude the series with Mississippi State on Saturday March 30 at 1 p.m.
