After giving up only two hits to the Alabama Crimson Tide Auburn still loses 2-0 giving the series victory to the Tide on Saturday, March 30. Auburn has still not earned a series victory in the conference and has only one win.
"Frustrating very frustrating," said Head Coach John Pawlowski. "I thought they were ready to play again today and it just didn't work out for us."
A close game that saw the first score of the day come in the third inning after third baseman Damek Tomscha committed an error that brought in Alabama's Chance Vincent for a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth inning Pawlowski decided to make a change from starting pitcher Will Kendall to Daniel Koger. Kendall finished the day with one run, one hit, two walks and two strikeouts in three innings pitched.
Koger did a nice job as well giving up one run on one hit in six innings.
"I thought that Will Kendall and Daniel Koger both did an outstanding job for us," Pawlowski said. "Unfortunately we just weren't able to get anything going offensively and give them credit I thought he (Spencer Turnbull) pitched very well for them."
Auburn did not do an outstanding job at the plate, but they did have four hits on the day, two more than Alabama had. The problem was that Auburn could not advance a runner past second base often enough to put a runner in scoring position because they kept hitting into double plays for the Crimson Tide.
Alabama had four double plays on the day.
"They made the plays and did a very good job defensively," Pawlowski said.
Alabama sent in the final score of the day in the seventh when Andrew Miller hit a sac bunt sending in Mikey White from third to give the Crimson Tide a 2-0 lead.
The loss dropped Auburn to 1-8 in the SEC continuing a streak of poor play for the Tigers.
"It's a tough start for our group not the start that we had envisioned or hoped for, but we got to keep moving forward," Pawlowski said.
While the season has not started the way the Tigers wanted Pawlowski still believes that the team can and will have success this season.
"It's frustrating for our team, but I know that success will come with this group," Pawlowski said. "They've got to keep their heads up and keep working."
Auburn will return to action against Wofford at home on Wednesday April
