The softball team lost the series opener to No. four Alabama 8-0 on the road Friday, March 22. The Crimson Tide broke a scoreless tie with a three-run fourth inning en route to the victory.
"This was a tough loss tonight," said Head Coach Tina Deese. "We had a chance in the fourth to get on the board and couldn't get a run. They came back and were able to string together a couple of hits. The game kind of got away from us in the sixth. We'll regroup and get ready for tomorrow."
Auburn had a chance to break the scoreless tie and take the lead in the fourth inning, but left two runners stranded after Baylee Stephens grounded out to second to end the inning.
The Crimson Tide would break the tie in the bottom of the fourth. They put up three runs in the fourth and then broke the game open in the sixth. The game ended when Jadyn Spencer hit a solo home run to center to end the game 8-0 on the mercy rule.
The Tigers and Tide continue their series tomorrow at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23.
