The future looks bright for the Auburn soccer team as a young offense played a key role for them in Saturday's 4-0 victory against West Florida.
The Tigers relied heavily on freshman forward Alexa Allen, who contributed two goals. Alex Massey and Logan Beal, also freshmen, each added a goal.
Advancing the team to 2-0 overall this spring, the victory came against a tough West Florida team that won the NCAA Division II Tournament in December.
This offensive power complements a tried and tested defensive group led by senior Goalkeeper Amy Howard. Last year, Howard had nine saves in a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to No. 2 BYU to end their season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The team has made the NCAA tournament 10 out of the past 11 years, going as far as the second round five times. They have also snatched seven SEC West titles during that time. This year, they hope to buck the second round blues with the help of their freshmen.
This Thursday, Auburn will go to Atlanta to face Georgia in their first SEC matchup. Their next home match is on April 14 against South Alabama.
For those who enjoy Auburn soccer, the spring season has started on an extremely promising note, with plenty more to come as the season picks up.
