Carmike Cinemas opening Tiger 13 Entertainment Complex, Thursday, May 1

Auburn and Opelika will be home to a new movie theatre and will be offering special, grand-opening deals on Thursday, May 1.
Carmike Cinemas announced the opening of the Tiger 13 Entertainment Complex earlier this week.
The theatre will include 13 screens and will be able to seat over 2,800 guests. The theatre will open its doors at 7 p.m.
"We're debuting The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that evening and we'll have an opening weekend concessions special for the Opelika and Auburn community to take advantage of as well," said Robert Rinderman, managing director of Jaffoni Communications Investor Relations.
During opening weekend, guests will be able to purchase a medium drink and popcorn for $5.00. This special continues all weekend until close on Sunday, May 4.
Inside each theatre are stadium seats, rocking seats, wall-to-wall screens with DLP digital projection and surround sound.
The BigD auditorium seats 580 guests and measures 81 feet wide and three stories tall.
The picture quality of the BigD screen is of a higher resolution than HD.
"We are extremely pleased to bring this exceptional entertainment complex to Opelika and the Auburn community, while providing our valued guests with superior cinema-going entertainment," said David Passman, president of Carmike Cinemas. "It is exciting to have Opelika to join a select list of communities offering Carmike's uniquely immersive BigD large screen experience."
The lobby of the Tiger 13 will include multiple concession stands and a self-serve Coca-Cola drink center.
The drink center offers 100 different fountain drink combinations.
Also in the lobby, guests will be able to purchase their tickets and concessions at one place.
For those with visual or hearing problems, the theatre offers Sony Closed Captioning glasses and amplified audio upon request.
The Tiger 13 joins the Carmike Wynnsong 16 that has been located in Auburn for a few years.
"I think it will be good for moviegoers in both towns," said David Dorton, director of Auburn Public Affairs. "Carmike is also going to upgrade the Auburn Theater to have a "Big D" screen so the two theaters will be basically equal. Both theaters will have advantages depending on where you live, but ultimately moviegoers in both towns will have more screens to choose from, which hopefully means a greater variety of movies in the market."
The new theatre has been in construction since last June, with weather being a cause for stalls in construction.
"As a rule, these things go to the day before opening," Benning Construction superintendent Dick Ewell told the Opelika-Auburn News. "We get down to the wire."
The new Tiger 13 is located at 1900 Capps Landing in Opelika.
Carmike Cinemas is one of the leading theatre companies in the country, with 252 theatres with 2,657 screens in 37 states. Carmike deems itself as "America's Hometown Theatre Chain."
