Auburn’s women’s tennis team headed to Columbia, SC Friday in hopes of winning their SEC opener against the No. 42 Gamecocks.

The Tigers were unable to capture the win, falling 4-1 to South Carolina.

Junior Paula de Man and Junior Michala Kucharova won their court three doubles match by a score of 8-7.

Senior Emily Flickinger and Junior Pleun Burgmans won their court one doubles match 8-4, clinching the doubles point for the Tigers.

The Tigers lost their top four single court matches in route to the loss.

Burgmans lost on court one 6-3 6-1, while on court two freshman Andie Dikosavljevic lost in three sets by a score of 6-1, 5-7, 6-3.

Courts three and four were also decided by three sets. Flickinger lost 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 on court three, and sophomore Reka Muller lost 7-6, 4-6, 6-3.

De Man was the only Tiger winning in singles, but because the other courts finished first, she was unable to finish her match.

The Tigers will look to improve upon their 10-3 record Sunday, Mar. 1 against the No. 3 Florida Gators in Gainesville.
