Auburn appoints new fire chief

Auburn appointed a new fire chief Wednesday, March 25.

Charles Duggan, Auburn city manager, accepted the recommendation of Bill James, Public Safety director, to appoint Deputy Chief John C. Lankford IV as the new fire chief, according to a press release issued by the city.

"Chief Lankford's 21 years of service, pursuit of educational opportunities and excellent history of hard work and leadership have given him the experience needed to lead the Auburn Fire Division,” Duggan said. Lankford comes into the new position after Chief Lee Lamar died Feb. 18.

Lankford has an associate’s degree in fire science from Chattahoochee Valley Community College, a Bachelor’s in agricultural business and economics from Auburn University and is a graduate of the Alabama State Fire College of and the National Fire Academy, according the a press release issued by the city.

“John has been a leader in the Fire Division during his career and provided excellent leadership during Chief Lamar’s illness,” James said. “I look forward to working with John as he leads the Fire Division into the future.”
