Auburn women’s tennis falls to Ole Miss

Auburn’s women’s tennis team played the Ole Miss Rebels Sunday, March 15, in the Tigers’ fifth SEC match of the season.

The Tigers fell 4-3 despite winning the doubles point. The 1-0 lead came in part by way of court one doubles pair Emily Flickinger and Pleun Burgmans. The senior, junior combo won 8-3.

The Tigers lost on court two, but juniors Michala Kucharova and Paula de Man won 8-6 on court three.

Despite the lead, the Tigers lost on courts court three, one and four in straight sets to give the Rebels a 3-1 advantage with courts two five and six yet to finish.

De Man won 6-2, 6-2 on court five and freshman Andie DIkosavljevic won 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-6) on court two.

The deciding match between auburn senior Jen Pfeifler and Ole Miss’ Zalinna Khairudinova went to three sets, but the Rebels finish ahead 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (6-8), 6-2.

The lost to the Rebels marks the Tigers fourth loss in five SEC matches. Auburn’s next match will be in College Station, Texas against Texas A&M on March 20 at 3p.m.
