Anthony Mason, the father of senior Auburn guard Antoine Mason, passed away Saturday in New York after a battle with congestive heart failure, according to widespread media reports.
Mason suffered a heart attack two weeks before, prompting Antoine to return to New York to visit his father. Antoine returned to the team in time for a game at Georgia on Feb. 14.
Mason was a 13-year NBA veteran with the New York Knicks, Charlotte Hornets, Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets and New Jersey Nets. He was named an All-Star in 2001 and Sixth Man of the Year in 1995.
