Sophomore offensive lineman Braden Smith recently shifted in on the line, moving from tackle to guard.
Smith, who stands at 6-foot-6 and weighs in at 299 pounds, said he’s noticed some mechanical differences since the switch.
“It’s a different experience,” Smith said. “Anytime you’re at a new position, it’s a whole different world. You pull. You don’t really do that as a tackle. You’re not really dealing with speed rushers.”
Even with the difficulties that can come with a change like this, Smith said he’s willing to do whatever he can to earn playing time.
“Whatever gets me on the field, I’ll do it,” Smith said. “Anything on the field is good with me.”
Smith has seen the field before, getting limited playing time in 2014, which he said will be great help to him as his career continues.
“It gives you that experience,” Smith said. “Anytime it’s your first time on the field, it’s a whole different kind of world out there. Now I’m more comfortable. It’s just getting that experience that’s really helpful.”
