Five Tigers earn All-SEC Equestrian honors

The equestrian team received All-SEC honors last weekend voted on by the league’s coaches.

Elizabeth Benson and Ashley Foster were recognized for their performances in equitation over fences and were placed on the All-SEC Team, with Benson also earning a place on the equitation on the flat team.

Benson holds a 12-2 record in fences with five Most Outstanding Performer honors and scoring a 90 or better twice this season, including a national-best 95 against South Carolina. She also holds the record for most wins in an Auburn career with 36 victories since Jennifer Waxman in her 2010-14 collegiate performance.

On the flat, Benson finished with three MOPs, defeating South Carolina in the SEC Championships with the second-highest score in the championship’s history, 165-154. She also breaks the record for the highest score in the Flat with a 97.

Foster earned two MOP honors, gaining her first in this year’s performance against Kansas State and triumphed over South Carolina with a 168-136 win over in this year’s SEC Championships.

Allie Dusha and Katsy Leeman were additionally named to the reining All-SEC team, and Alexa Rivard earned a spot in the reining SEC All-Freshman team.

Dusha was named the National Collegiate Equestrian Association’s Reining Rider of the Month earlier this season with a perfect 5-0 in March and a 67-65 win over No. 3 Baylor. She then beat New Mexico State 69-67 and Texas A&M 71-0 to end the 2015 season.

In the SEC Championships, Dusha went 2-0, earning MOP honors in both meets, defeating both Georgia and South Carolina.

Leeman earned four MOPS with her eight Reining victories against UT-Martin and Texas A&M. She then defeated South Carolina with a 71-69 victory in February, closing the regular season with a win over A&M, 73.5-73.

Rivard finished with a 7-6 record, scoring a season-high 72 against Fresno State to earn her first MOP honor. In the championship, she went 1-1, defeating Georgia, 138.5-138.

With these accomplishments, the Tigers will face the NCEA Championships in Waco, Texas, starting with a matchup against UT-Martin at 8:30 p.m.
