The Lombardi Award watch list was released Tuesday, Aug. 25, and Auburn’s Carl Lawson was one of 32 players named.
The Lombardi Award is given to the best down lineman (offensive or defensive) in the nation, and will be awarded on Dec. 9, 2015.
Lawson, a redshirt sophomore defensive end, is coming off ACL surgery that caused him to miss all of the 2014 season. But during his freshman year in 2013, he was one of the most disruptive linemen in the country, registering 20 tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss on the year as a true freshman.
His performance in 2013 made a favorable impression on the media, as they voted him onto the All-SEC Third Team during this year’s SEC Media Days.
