Auburn coach Gus Malzahn announced Tuesday afternoon that nickel corner Josh Holsey has torn his ACL and will miss the rest of the season.
Holsey was injured early during Auburn's win over Jacksonville State on Saturday and had to be carried off the field.
The ACL that Holsey tore is the same one he tore in 2013, and missed the season then as well. He was expected to be an important piece in Auburn's already thin secondary this season.
Since Holsey has not redshirted before, the senior could receive a medical redshirt for an additional year of eligibility in 2016, something Malzahn said they will "talk through."
"It's tough on him," Malzahn said. "He's one of our team leaders, too, and I know a lot of his teammates are hurt for him."
