Low country boil and live music at Sundown at Blooming Colors

Located at the corner of South College Street and South Donahue Drive in Auburn, Sundown at Blooming Colors, an event at The Market at Blooming Colors, offered casual dining of low country boil along with live music by Mark True.

The event created a relaxing and joyful atmosphere from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11.

The Market at Blooming Colors sold a variety of local produce and crepes were served at Crepe Myrtle Café.

The event attracted many locals and football fans alike as they looked for an enjoyable place to socialize inside or outside.

Bobby Gray has been tailgating for seven years and has been to The Market many times.

“The Market has had some great natural stuff, which is mostly locally grown; it’s very good,” Gray said.

True performed some of his new songs, old songs and covers of other artists he enjoys.

True, who spent 25 years living in Nashville as a songwriter for artists such as Crystal Gayle, Don Williams, Earl Ives, and Russell Smith, just recently moved to Alabama.

True said he wanted to keep playing at Blooming Colors.

"I really wanted to fly under the radar," True said. "It would be a great place for me to slip in and play, so that is why I’m here, and I really love the venue. People are really enjoying themselves, it looks like, and I am too. I’m just glad to be back at it."

Though he is enjoying performing at smaller venues, he said he still has much ahead in his future.

“I still get songs recorded now and then, mostly on smaller, independent labels," True said. "I’m working on a CD that I’ll have out soon. In true songwriter fashion it’s called Songs for Other People."

Other customers said they liked the shrimp boil.

Another customer, Kay McCartney, said she enjoyed the atmosphere.

“I like to sit outside," McCartney said. "I like the little garden area out there [and] I even like the chickens that come by so it's fun. The singer is why we came tonight … so we decided we could come over and hear the music and have dinner while we were here."

Sundown at Blooming Colors hosted people of all ages, and the dedicated manager, Ginger Purvis, worked diligently to make the night special for her customers.

Purvis was not able to be interviewed.
