Homecoming parade to take to the streets on Friday, partial road closures announced

SGA's Homecoming parade will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2.

The parade will begin on Thach Avenue and will end by Ralph Brown Draughon Library on Mell Street.

Many of the roads that will be closed off make up the loop the parade path follows. South College Street, East Magnolia Avenue, South Gay Street and Thach Avenue will all have partial road closures starting at 6 p.m.

Mallory Meagher, the director of Homecoming, said she thinks it will be easier for students to get around downtown Auburn.

"We tried to confine it," Meagher said. "It should be easy for everyone to get on and off campus."

Only a small portion of downtown Auburn will be closed off for the parade, according to Meagher. The Gay Street parking lot and  a small portion of the roads corresponding with it will be closed during the event.

Meagher said this year's Homecoming will have a new event for students to look forward to.

"We're going to have a pep rally right before the concert," Meagher said. "We're going to have the cheerleaders, Tiger Paws and Miss Homecoming candidates, so it's going to be super exciting."

The event, which is free, is free for members of the community and students. This year's Homecoming will try to incorporate on and off campus organizations. Meagher said her goal is to "incorporate the community more" in the Homecoming celebration.

"I'm from Auburn, so I really hope to see the community and the students coming together," Meagher said.
