Kevin Brown, co-founder of Chicken Salad Chick, passed away Saturday, Nov. 21, after an approximately two-year battle with cancer, according to a post on the company's Facebook page.
"Although cancer reared its ugly head too many times in the past two years, cancer didn't stand a chance against Kevin Brown's determination, will power and fight," the Facebook post reads. "Kevin valiantly stared cancer straight in the eye, suited up in full armor and rose up to the challenge that faced him."
Brown founded Chicken Salad Chick with his wife, Stacy, after they were told by the Lee County Health Department that selling chicken salad they cooked in their home was illegal, according to the company's website. The company now has locations across the Southeast, including a restaurant on Auburn's campus.
Brown also founded the Chicken Salad Chick Foundation, which raises money for cancer research as well as food banks.
A memorial for Brown will be held Sunday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. at the Auburn United Methodist Church.
