City Council votes to take action against Tiger Lodge

The Auburn City Council voted on Tuesday night to take action against two businesses, Tiger Lodge and former business currently occupied by Pita Pit, for failure to pay taxes and penalties.

Tiger Lodge and the business in the building before Pita Pit both failed to pay taxes and other fees at different times.

The former owner of the business before Pita Pit failed to remit various taxes dating as far back at 2012, said Penny Smith, finance director for the City of Auburn.

Smith said Tiger Lodge paid their taxes, but did not pay required penalties.

According to Smith, this is highly uncommon.

"A vast majority of our businesses are in complete compliance," Smith said.

Smith said the city does everything they can to remind businesses and work with them to make sure everything is taken care of, but neither business in this case has complied.

"We all miss a deadline," Smith said. "Every now and then that will happen."

Smith said they have reached out multiple times to both businesses and still have not received payments.

From here, Smith said their are two paths to be taken. The first is to place a lein on all properties owned by the businesses. The second is to file an injunction in district court.

They will work with the city attorney to determine which path to take.

"This is a last resort," Smith said. "We don't take bringing this to the City Council lightly."
