Auburn women’s basketball coasted to an 88-59 victory over George Mason led by a 28-point effort from Brandy Montgomery on Wednesday night in Auburn.
Montgomery, who came into the night averaging a team-high 18.8 points, was 6-10 from the arc. Over half of her points were from 3-pointers, which came in a hot streak in the middle of the game. During the second and third quarters, she drained seven attempts in a row, including five 3-pointers.
She led the team in a scoring flurry, as the Tigers shot 65.8 percent from the field in the last three quarters, and 54 percent overall. Tra’Cee Tanner, Katie Frerking, and Janiah McKay were a part of the action as well, all three scoring over double digits.
However, Auburn’s biggest takeaway from the night was its 30 forced turnovers. The Tigers were able to score 40 points from capitalizing off of the George Mason miscues.
Cabriana Capers took the charge rebounding, recording seven rebounds in just 16 minutes of action. Tanner, arguably Auburn’s best rebounder, finished the game with only two.
George Mason shot 44 percent on the night, including a 35.7 percent effort in the final three quarters. Taylor Brown added 14 points for George Mason, which led the team.
Auburn (10-2) will head to Florida Gulf Coast University, where they will try to clinch one last game before they head into SEC play beginning in January
