Christmas in a Railroad Town to be held in downtown Opelika

The most wonderful time of the year is here. Spend a festive evening in downtown Opelika with friends and family for the 21st annual Christmas in a Railroad Town Friday, Dec. 11 from 6-9 p.m.

All ages are welcomed and encouraged to join, and visitors can come and go. according to Pam-Powers Smith, director of historical downtown Opelika. 

Smith said the event has always been a night to remember, and she said this year's event will not disappoint. 

Several blocks in downtown Opelika will be closed for the events, and local stores and restaurants will be open late to serve customers, according to Smith. 

Adults can browse shops and admire works from some of Opelika's most talented community artists. 

Smith said visitors can make winter snowflakes, charcoal sketches and vinyl record wreaths. Train rides, face-painting, pony rides and Christmas crafts are a few of the exciting events for children.

She also said Santa and Mrs. Claus will be joining the fun, and letters to Santa will be ready to sign and send to the North Pole. 

There will be a fire truck, and a photo booth to capture funny faces and fun memories. Trolley rides will be held at the Museum of East Alabama, and the Queen's Carolers will be present as well, according to Smith. 

Smith said guests are invited to sing along and celebrate the season, and couples, friends, and families of all ages can enjoy the event and celebrate the holiday season. 

"It's a neat atmosphere for all ages, whether you eat dinner, play games or just wander through the shops," Smith said. "It's an event that everyone can enjoy, no matter the age."
