Will Muschamp, who was the Auburn defensive coordinator for 2015, has been officially announced as the head coach at South Carolina.
Muschamp was the head coach at Florida from 2011-14, and spent a year at Auburn after being fired by the Gators.
Muschamp takes over for former Gamecock coach Steve Spurrier, who coached South Carolina from 2005-15.
Muschamp's coaching career includes stops at Texas, LSU, and the Miami Dolphins, along with three separate tenures at Auburn, including two as the defensive coordinator.
Since he was hired away from Auburn after the end of the regular season, Muschamp does not owe Auburn any buyout money.
Muschamp signed a three-year, $5.1 million contract just under a year ago on Dec. 14, 2014, one that made him the highest-paid assistant coach in college football.
Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn issued a statement Sunday afternoon regarding Muschamp.
"I really appreciate Coach Muschamp’s hard work and dedication for our program at Auburn this past year and wish him nothing but the best with his new job. I will begin a search immediately for our next defensive coordinator."
