SEC Title win earns Tigers fourth national seed in NCAA tournament

With three wins in 36 hours through the weekend, the Auburn softball team won their second straight SEC Title and will now host a regional  at Jane B. Moore Field May 20-22. The Tigers will welcome Oregon State, Jacksonville State, and USC Upstate to The Plains. The Tigers learned of their seeding during their awards banquet on Sunday.

“You’ve got three other deserving teams,” Auburn coach Clint Myers said. “You have to go out and prove yourself day in and out. They need to remember what they were able to accomplish in 36 hours. They need to have that mentality going into this regional.”

With the same record as last year, Auburn (49-9) looks to return to Oklahoma City and play in another Women’s College World Series. The Tigers will match up against many familiar faces, as the SEC is sending a league-record 11 teams to the NCAA Tournament this year.

“They have to stay focused and have to stay committed to the fact in how they played against LSU, Florida and Alabama,” Myers said.

Auburn will face off against Jacksonville State on Friday at 6 p.m. at Jane B. Moore field.
