Head coach Lauren Spencer, Assistant Coach Chris Hooshyar and senior Pleun Burgmans earned honors in the 2015-16 ITA Regional Awards, announced this week.

Spencer was named the Southern Region Coach of the Year after becoming the all-time coaching wins leader in Auburn women's tennis history, leading the Tigers to a 22-7 regular season record and 9-4 in SEC play. Another win will give Auburn the record for overall wins in a single season.

Hooshyar earned regional assistant coach of the year honors for the first time in his career. The third year assistant takes pride in having one of the most physically fit teams in the country and has led Auburn to a 31-17 record in matches that reach a third set.

"Chris is hands down the best assistant in the country," said Spencer. "He is the most loyal, passionate and professional assistant that I could have. I am so proud of how much he has grown as a coach and everything he has done for the team and Auburn."

Burgmans completed her senior regular season as Auburn's all-time leader in career combined wins (192) and doubles wins (107). She sits at a 27-7 singles record and 24-10 doubles record for this season.

“I think it is very fitting for Pleun that she came into Auburn and won the ITA Southern Region Freshman of the Year and now she is leaving as the Player of the Year,” said Spencer. “She has had a fantastic year and I think she has a chance to make a strong showing in the NCAA Tournament."

Auburn will begin NCAA Regional play at the Yarbrough Tennis Center Friday at 2 p.m. against Alcorn State. The winner of the match will face the winner of the Arizona State/NC State match at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
