Grier earns First Team All-American honor

Auburn centerfielder Anfernee Grier was named a Baseball America first team All-American, announced Tuesday. The All-SEC selection and Golden Spikes Award semifinalist lead the team in home runs this season at 12 with 41 RBI.

He posted a .366/.457/.576 line with 19 stolen bases in 238 at-bats in addition to an exceptional outfield performance. His batting average ranked fourth in the SEC and his 87 hits placed second. Grier joins Gabe Gross (2000), Todd Faulkner (2000) and Hunter Morris (2010) as one of only four players to be named an All-American by Baseball America since 2000.

Other SEC first team members include Ryne Birk (2B, Texas A&M) and Boomer White (3B, Texas A&M). The SEC had a total of 11 members on the first, second and third teams.

Grier has been named one of 25 semifinalists for the 2016 Golden Spikes Award and fan voting is a big part of the selection process. Voting will be open until Wednesday, June 8.
