Carl Lawson named Bednarik Award semifinalist

Carl Lawson's stellar 2016 season is turning heads.

He was named one of 18 semifinalists for the Chuck Bednarik Award on Monday. The Bednarik Award, now in its 22nd year, is given to the Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year.

Lawson has racked up 18 tackles and 7.5 sacks in eight games for Auburn this season, anchoring a stout defensive front that ranks 31st in the nation in total defense. 

The other members of the semifinalist list joining Lawson are Jonathan Allen and Reuben Foster of Alabama, Cordrea Tankersley and Christian Wilkins of Clemson, Jarrad Davis of Florida, Desmond King of Iowa, Arden Key and Tre'Davious White of LSU, Jabrill Peppers of Michigan, Nate Gerry of Nebraska, Ejuan Price of Pittsburgh, Solomon Thomas of Stanford, Derek Barnett of Tennessee, Myles Garrett of Texas A&M, Hunter Dimick of Utah, Zach Cunningham of Vanderbilt and Budda Baker of Washington.
