Auburn to play in Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game in 2018 season opener

Auburn's opponent for the 2018 season opener is set.

The Tigers will return to Atlanta to face Washington in the 2018 Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game, the school announced Thursday. By scheduling the Huskies, the requirement for a non-conference Power 5 game has been fulfilled.

This will be the third time Auburn has made an appearance in the game: the Tigers faced Clemson in 2012 and Louisville in 2015.

“We’re looking forward to the opportunity to play in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game for a third time,” coach Gus Malzahn said. “Auburn has a great fan base in Atlanta and we’ve always had a big number of Georgia kids in our program. We appreciate the partnership we’ve had over the years with the great people at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl."

Per the contract for the game, Auburn will receive a $4.2 million payout, the largest sum Auburn has ever received for participation in a neutral-site game. The Tigers will wear white for the game, but they will be designated as the home team. Auburn is also allotted 40,000 tickets for the game.

The game will take place on Sept. 1, 2018, with a kickoff time yet to be determined.
