City Council approves alcoholic beverage license for Taco Mama

When the Alabama-based Mexican restaurant Taco Mama opens its first Auburn location in early 2017, diners will now officially be able to pair a margarita, beer or glass of wine with their burrito or custom taco.

Auburn City Council unanimously approved the restaurant's alcoholic beverage license at the council's meeting Tuesday, Nov. 15. The license allows Taco Mama to serve liquor, beer, and wine.

In an October interview with The Plainsman, Taco Mama owner Will Haver estimated that the restaurant could opens it doors as soon as January 2017.

Taco Mama's menu includes Mexican restaurant staples like tacos, burritos, quesadillas, burrito bowls and, of course, chips and queso dip. Diners can build their own entree or pick from a menu of the restaurant's recipes.

The restaurant will take over a vacant storefront in the Magnolia Plaza. The downtown Auburn location will be Taco Mama's sixth, all in Alabama.

Taco Mama will open for lunch everyday at 11 a.m. For now, Taco Mama is planning on usually staying open until 10 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday, and until 10:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
