The circle is complete, so to speak, for Jeremy Johnson. The senior will be the starting quarterback for Auburn's game against Alabama A&M this Saturday, which is also Senior Day.
Auburn coach Gus Malzahn announced the move Thursday night during his weekly appearance on Tiger Talk.
"I know our team is excited for him," Malzahn said. "He's excited. I'm excited for him. He'll be ready to go."
Johnson will be starting in place of Sean White, who will sit out the game while nursing an injured shoulder in preparation for next week's Iron Bowl. White has not practiced this week.
Earlier this week, Malzahn expressed belief that whoever started at quarterback would get the job done against the Bulldogs..
“I’m confident in whoever we put out there that they get it done," Malzahn said. "That’s 100 percent the truth.”
Johnson started in nine games last season, where he threw for 1,054 yards and 10 touchdowns. In limited action this year, he's completed 4-of-6 throws for 38 yards.
Malzahn also indicated the support the team has for Johnson, who struggled last season before giving way to White.
"Obviously, it's been tough the last two years on him," Malzahn said earlier in the week. "I think everybody knows that. He’s handled himself well, been there for his teammates trying to help us any way he can."
John Franklin III is also expected to get some playing time this week as well.
