Kamryn Pettway returns to practice, status for Georgia uncertain

Auburn running back Kamryn Pettway, who injured his left leg in the No. 9 Tigers' 23-16 win over Vanderbilt, dressed out for practice on Wednesday, offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee confirmed during his weekly press conference. The extent to which he participated, as well as his status for Saturday's pivotal game at Georgia, is unclear.

"He was dressed out and at this point, I’d say he’s just day-to-day," Lashlee said. "Each day, we just kind of see how he’s doing. We’re optimistic that he’ll be back very soon.”

Pettway has rushed for 1,106 yards, which leads the SEC and is good for 11th in the FBS. In his last four games, he's rushed for 765 yards, the best for an Auburn player in a four-game stretch since Bo Jackson during his 1985 Heisman campaign.

Pettway has missed action before this season. He didn't receive a carry in Auburn's loss to Clemson and missed the second half of the LSU game and all of the UL-Monroe game with a minor injury. In those games, fellow sophomore running back Kerryon Johnson ran for 333 yards and 3 touchdowns

If Pettway can't go in Athens, the Tigers will turn to Johnson to carry the load, though the staff trusts Stanton Truitt and Kam Martin as other reliable options. That's a big "if" for Gus Malzahn's team, though.
