Following victories over rival Alabama for the 10th ranked Tigers last week, a trio of Auburn swimmers have been awarded SEC weekly honors. Freshman Julie Meynen, sophomore Scott Lazeroff, and senior Ashley Neidigh were the Tigers selected for the awards.
Meynen claimed Female Freshman of the Week, while Lazeroff and Neidigh won Male and Female Swimmer of the Week respectively.
Freshman Julie Meynen, from Luxembourg, received the award for the second time in her career. Her 50 free time of 22.74 currently ranks 17th nationally, and Meynen hasn’t suffered a loss in the 100 free in a dual meet this season. She also claimed the winning times in the 400 medley and 400 free relays, swimming the anchor leg.
Lazeroff completed his first sweep of the season in the springboard events to win Swimmer of the Week honors. The sophomore from Rochester, New York, had season best scores in both the 1-meter (341.03) and 3-meter (380.85) against the Crimson Tide.
Senior leader Ashley Neidigh, from Jacksonville, Florida, rounds out this week’s decorated Tigers, claiming SEC Female Swimmer of the Week by way of a sweep in both the 500 and 1000 freestyles. Her time of 9:45.74 in the 1000 is good for seventh best nationally, and the 4:48.36 time in the 500 ranks 15th.
The dual victory over Alabama is the third SEC win for both the men’s and women’s squads, with the other victories coming on the road against LSU and at home against Kentucky. Auburn looks to continue their hot start to this season in Knoxville, Tennessee, this Friday, Nov. 11, as the Tigers take on Tennessee at noon on the SEC Network.
