Residents gear up for a busy A-Day weekend in Auburn

Residents of Auburn University have a full weekend ahead full of events.

In addition to the A-day football game, which will bring around thousands of people to the Auburn area, there are several other events that are occurring both on and around campus. These events include the Southeastern Raptor Center’s Wing Fling, the Auburn Tiger Trail, and the Autism 5-K.

Wing Fling

On Friday, April 7, the Southeastern Raptor Center will host an educational presentation featuring many types of birds, featuring owls, hawks, falcon, vultures, and eagles.

Gates open at 4:15 p.m., and the presentation will begin at 5 p.m. There will be no birds flying during the presentation, and when it is complete, the birds will be brought back out for photo opportunities with event goers.

Tickets are $5 each, and children under three are admitted for free.

Auburn Tiger Trail

On Friday, April 7, the Auburn Chamber will induct six new members to the Auburn Tiger Trail.

“The new class of athletic legends will officially join the ranks of 120 past Tiger Trail inductees during the induction ceremony at the Auburn Arena,” the release from the Chamber states. Each inductee will receive an engraved granite plaque to be placed in the sidewalk of downtown Auburn.

Inductees are Alvin Bresler, Track (1968-1971); James Brooks, Football (1977-1980); Ray Groover, Men’s Basketball (1959-1961); Gabe Gross, Baseball (1999-2001); Angie Hannah, Women’s Basketball (1978-1982); and Bobby Hunt, Football (1959-1961).

The event will be held at the Auburn Arena, and tickets are $25 each. The entire community is invited to attend. Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available at 5 p.m., and the reception will begin at 6 p.m.

A-Day Autism 5-K

The fourth annual A-Day Autism 5-K, hosted by Lee County Autism Resource & Advocacy, will begin at 8:00 a.m. Saturday. On-site registration will be held from 6:30-7:30 a.m., and runners of all ages are welcome to participate in the one mile fun run or 5-K.

The event is hosted in collaboration with the Auburn University School of Kinesiology, and it is a fundraiser for local families of more than 400 students within Lee County that receive services for Autism.

LCARA is the only all-volunteer, non-profit organization in Lee County that helps families who are effected by Autism. All funds remain in Lee County to provide resources, educational programs, special family events and a family weekend camp for the families.
