Auburn Mayor Bill Ham and other city officials will host two events Monday to honor the men and women of the Armed Forces who have died in combat.
The 19th Annual Mayor's Memorial Day Breakfast, hosted by Ham and the Auburn Veterans Committee, will be on Monday at 8 a.m. at the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center Marquee.
Spc. E-5 Carey Owen is set to be the guest of honor and will receive the 2017 Distinguished Veteran Award. The family of Lance Corporal Billy Stelpflug will receive the marking the Auburn Heroes Remembered Award, marking the sixth year that the award will be presented to a local family who had a veteran pass away.

Following the breakfast, the city will host the annual memorial wreath-laying ceremony at the Auburn Veterans Memorial Monument on the corner of Ross Street and Glenn Avenue. Ross Street will be closed from Glenn Avenue to Harper Avenue to provide parking on Ross Street. Glenn Avenue will close to through traffic between Burton Street and North Debardeleben Street during the ceremony.
Attendees of the breakfast can park in the Hotel parking lot but a large portion of its south parking area is closed where a temporary Marquee structure was placed while the conference center is under construction. Overflow parking is available north of the Hotel at the Cambridge parking lot on Thach Avenue.
Those attending the wreath-laying ceremony are encouraged to park at the Douglas J. Watson Municipal Complex and Felton Little Park on Ross Street and Glenn Avenue, the city said in a release.
