Acre hosted their first farmers market of the summer on Wednesday with freshly harvested goods and locally made art and jewelry.
With tents set up outside on the walkway and dining tables on the green space, guests were welcomed from 4-6 p.m. and treated to complimentary summer cocktails and pimento cheese.
Admission to the farmers market was free, but a 3-course meal was offered inside for $30. Every $5 of each sale was donated to Hosanna Home and His Place.
This was Acre’s fourth year hosting their farmers market, and they welcomed farmers from My Secret Garden from Notasulga, Pecan Point Farm of Hurtsboro and Hornsby Farms from Auburn.
Charlie Adams, founder of My Secret Garden, has been farming organically for about 30 years.
Adams set up his table at the market with jars of honey, plum spice jam and his favorite, sweet bite mustard.
“We grow our own stuff to make our own stuff, we’re organic, and we’re easy to find,” Adams said.
Hornsby Farms table could be seen covered with jars of their famous jams and jellies and pickled vegetables such as their Sweet Heat Pepper Jelly, their classic strawberry jam, and their pickled okra. Along with their jars, they also sold flowers and fresh produce.
As guests strolled through the different tables, Justin Hill of Eastaboga’s Bee Company, offered samples of his honey.
Acre not only hosted farmers with their produce and products but also local artists and their work.
For Regan Stanfield of Regan Allison Designs, jewelry is something to be made once the house is quite and all the kids are put to bed.
“I make everything myself as a stay at home mom, and I just love making jewelry so after they go to bed at night I stay up and create,” Stanfield said. “Sometimes the kids will actually make jewelry with me, it’s a nice family affair, I’ll give them beads and string and they’ll just go to work. They love to give them to their grandparents.”
Stephanie Edstrom brought her jewelry creations, such as earrings, necklaces and bracelets where some have unique ingredients.
“I started incorporating herbs and spices into my designs,” Edstrom said. They’ve been dried for consumption use, and then I cut them and place them to create the composition as I build 4-5 layers of resin. People really gravitate towards those I think, with the bright colors and depth.”
