Beginning Thursday, June 1, a section of East Samford Avenue will close for construction. Construction will take place between west of Jockish Street and east of East University Drive.
This section will be closed to traffic for four to five weeks for the replacement of a double culvert running under East Samford Avenue, a water main and sewer main. They will also work to improve pedestrian access to the new Auburn High School.
The sidewalk being constructed will stretch from the east side of East University Drive from East Samford Avenue to Carolyn Court.
The traffic detour will direct commuters down Glenn Avenue. Traffic on East Samford Avenue may detour via Jockish Street and Varner Avenue.
The city hopes scheduling construction during the summer months will lessen the burden on school year commuters. Construction timelines during this time are subject to change because of weather and other factors.
