A spirit that is not afraid

Auburn enters SEC opener as 19-point favorite over Mizzou

A win is a win, but Saturday’s 24-10 win over FCS school Mercer was an ugly one for Auburn. The Tigers turned the ball over five times and the Bears kept what was supposed to be a blowout close throughout.

Offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey said that fixing the turnovers starts with placing an emphasis on it, which is something the coaches plan to do as they prepare to open SEC play at Missouri Saturday night.

“At the end of the day we’ve just got to emphasize it,” Lindsey said. “Our guys have to take pride in never losing the ball, and we’ll definitely make that point.”

Missouri enters Saturday’s game at 1-2 after a 35-3 loss to Purdue on Saturday. No. 15 Auburn opens as a 19-point favorite, however Lindsey emphasized the need for improvement.

“They are athletic, and I know they’ll be ready to play,” Lindsey said. “They’ll be excited with us coming there. They are talented. We’re going to have to play better than we’ve played, and I expect us to.”
