A spirit that is not afraid

A week of bar fashion

Downtown Auburn at night is often sprawling with students hopping from bar to bar. Dressed in a variety of ways, Auburn students have a unique opportunity to showcase their individual style every day of the week.

Bar fashion will likely change depending on the day of the week, the particular bar or most importantly, the style of the individual. However, taking a look at a week of bar fashion, it's evident that if the fashion of Auburn students has one thing, it's variety.

For many students, which bar you go to is just as important as what you wear.

"If you're going to 17(16) you definitely want to wear something more comfortable so you can dance but if you have a ballin' outfit, go to Sky(bar)." sophomore, Jackie Davenport said.

As we all know, in order to impress downtown it's important to accessorize. For Troy University senior and Avondale bartender Dominique Phillips, accessorizing has a whole different meaning. Phillips brought her dog, a certified emotional support animal with her to Quixotes on Wednesday. And although she wouldn't recommend bringing untrained dogs with you downtown to bars, it shows that accessorizing doesn't always have to mean jewelry or a new pair of sunglasses.

A lot of people like to dress more casually, but for some, a weekend downtown is a chance to show off their sense of style.

"Dress your best because you never know who you're going to meet," Derek Caver, Auburn resident and former Auburn student said. "Dress your best, you should be trying to impress." Caver advises.

On the other hand, a more casual look is the definite go to look for a lot of students."I wear jeans everyday, I never wear shorts." senior, Ian Lee said.

While some students like to mix up their style, others have a defined fashion sense that they stick to regularly. Senior William Patterson is a perfect example of that. Describing his style as "flannels, jeans and more flannels." it's obvious what Patterson's favorite thing to wear (despite inexplicably not wearing a flannel at the time), even rolling up his flannels during the scorching summer heat and wearing his "nicer flannels" on special occasions.

Describing his style as "Whatever I want", senior Nick Conversino likes to dress nice but says what he wears also depends on how he's feeling that day. "I'm trying to have a public image although that may sound corny," Conversion said. "I have  to change it up, I cant wear the same thing too many times."

Auburn junior Carol Ann Thomason has a different philosophy than many when it comes to bar fashion. "I always go for comfort, you definitely want to look good but comfort is a huge factor." Thomason said.

Most Auburn students tend to dress more casually going downtown on weekdays and reserve the weekends for their nicer outfits but if this article proves anything, it's that Auburn students have vastly different opinions on what "bar fashion should be. However, being fashionable is subjective and whatever you may decide to wear downtown, being comfortable and confident in what you're wearing is the most important thing.
